Mr. Mason has raised over US$500 million in capital funding for projects in South Korea, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique . He is currently the Chairman of Tonare Energy, LLC, a Canadian based oil producer. Tonare has a vast land position in both Saskatchewan and Alberta and is currently developing numerous conventional & heavy oil projects. Prior to Tonare, he was founder, of the Artumas Group a publicly traded Tanzanian based E&P company with over 150 employees.
Artumas was one of the earliest entrants into the East African basins and proved up reserves in excess of 125 million BOE which was the largest natural gas discovery in recent years. He secured over 25,000 sq. km. of oil and gas concessions in the highly potential deltaic basin of Tanzania and Mozambique. Mr Mason conceptualized, negotiated and developed a fully integrated energy project in Tanzania, including the first private power generation and transmission franchise, as a means to commercialize the gas discovery and committed in excess of US$400 million of capital on the Artumas Group’s investments in East Africa.

Ako is a finance executive whose over twenty years professional career spans Investment Banking, Oil and Gas, Information Technology, Utilities, Consumer Packaged Goods and Telecoms with leading Canadian organizations such as Bell Canada, Ontario Power and Molson. His solid high-level investment banking experience covers transactions across West Africa. Previously he was co-founder and CFO of Jaguar Wireless and served on the board of a publicly quoted mining company focussed on the exploration and development of deposits of Uranium and Gold in East Africa.
Ako has a PHD in management from the University of Calgary. He is a Cornell MBA graduate, a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta (FCPA) and Certified Professional Accountant (CPA US). He is also a Certified Chartered Accountant (FCCA UK) , a certified fraud examiner (CFE) and a certified director (ICD.D). He is active in the community and has serves on the Community Council of the Scouts as Treasurer. He has served on the Boards of other charities including the Canadian Black Business Professional and the Region of Peel Literacy Guild in Ontario.
